Nice Little Beach Trip

It’s been a yearly tradition in my family to visit the Myrtle Beach are for as long as I can remember. From hurricanes to sunburns we’ve experienced it all. The past few years it’s been the week of memorial day. I left work early and got on the road well after the sun went down.

What is it with Atlanta traffic always being insane? Squeezing four lanes down to one in less than a quarter mile, absolutely bonkers. The obligatory late night/early morning Waffle House stop for the all star breakfast had to be made east of Columbia SC. I finally got to the house for the week just before sunrise.

It’s a great time every time. As I’ve gotten older I just want to sit on the beach and relax, a cold beer, the occasional stroll down the beach. It’s nice to have things to do, but I’ll always want to sit in the sand and people watch. I wasn’t able to find my favorite beer, Labatt’s Blue Light, it was still great sipping cheap beer, drinking some mixed drinks.

One of the things we always do, and I mean always, is go to the pier at night and listen to music. Cheap beer and cover bands will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s something that reminds me of my childhood(maybe not the beer) and the simpler times before I grew up and developed adult problems.

Perhaps my favorite time I had on this little jaunt was a round of golf at Pawley’s Plantation. A nice little drizzle fell as I warmed up and started the round. It wasn’t my best round but far from my worst. The clubhouse restaurant was really good, potstickers and a crab cake BLT.

The last day was bittersweet as it always is on any vacation. Clouds obscured the sky most of the day but the sun did come out for a little while. Getting to spend time on the beach and hearing the waves was a nice way to close out the trip. Plus the seafood pasta with shrimp, scallops, and calamari was a good meal to finish the trip with.
